When choosing underfloor heating, there are two options; Hydronic (wet) or Electric. Both types of system offer many benefits and are available to suit most subfloor types, making it an ideal heating solution for new builds and renovations.

There are a number of contributing factors which lead to homeowners benefitting from improved energy efficiency when choosing a floor heating system:

Lower operating temperatures

The radiant heat from a hydronic or electric system allows the room air temperature to be 1-2°C cooler while still delivering the same level of comfort as radiator systems

Faster heat-up times

Research suggests that you would have to pre heat each room fitted with radiators for up to an hour to make the occupied space comfortable. With underfloor heating it can take as little as 30 minutes for a room to reach the same comfort level.  Consequently, the total running time of Warmup’s underfloor heating is less than radiator systems.

Less heat loss

With concentrated heat sources such as radiators there is inevitably a stream of warm air that passes over windows, rapidly losing heat before it pools at the ceiling and increasing the heat lost through the ceiling too.  This is the first thing that happens with radiator systems every time they activate, rapidly increasing the amount of heat a room loses but not improving comfort until the cooler air begins to fall.

No overheating

Radiant heat gently warms the entire room in unison from the ground up.  This means that the occupied portion of the room reaches a consistently comfortable temperature first. The evenly distributed radiant heat means that everyone in the room experiences the same comfortable temperature. There is no stuffy feeling or desire to open the window, therefore energy is not wasted.

Zoned control

It is easy to zone and control individual rooms with underfloor heating. The minimal circulation of air allows heating controls to accurately control the air temperature in each individual room. This means each room is only heated when it is needed, as opposed to heating the whole house each morning when you only use two rooms before leaving for work.
