So, how old is your boiler?

There are several ways to find out how old your boiler is. The easiest way to get a rough idea of when your boiler was manufactured is to visit the official industry database. Just put a few details into the search function and all the details of your boiler, including the dates when manufacture of that model began and ended, will be displayed.  You can search for all brands and models of boilers in this database.

If your boiler was installed before 2006, it probably has a permanent pilot light. This means it is a non-condensing boiler and will be less than 80% efficient. That means for every £1 spent on gas, only 80p is used to produce heat or hot water, and the rest is lost up the flue as wasted heat!

According to Energy Saving Trust if you replace a boiler that is less than 70% efficient with a new condensing boiler, programmer, room thermostat and thermostatic radiator controls (TRVs), you could save up to £340 on your annual fuel bills.
