It’s still a bit chilly and the heating is on full and as we have probably all experienced, things tend to break down when we need them the most.

A boiler is a mechanical product; it has moving parts that can be affected by general wear and tear as well as parts that have a natural lifespan and need to be replaced. So, it should not come as a surprise that they can break down at some point during their working life. The fact that it always happens when the appliance is most needed could be avoided.

During the warmer months of the year our heating systems are at the back of our minds as we basque in the warm sun! This can, unfortunately, lead to problems that are only realised in the winter when heating is required and, crucially, when installers are at their busiest.

During a regular service, we can carry out maintenance checks to ensure the boiler is working correctly and efficiently. For example, when it comes to condensing boilers, condensate traps can become choked with combustion debris eventually causing them to block.  Blockages will interfere with the smooth running of the appliance and can cause it to malfunction. By undertaking a simple cleaning job during the service, installers can protect their customers from the cost and inconvenience of a potential larger job.

An annual service is also the ideal time to conduct some basic checks. It is also important to check all the boiler’s functions are operating correctly and looking for signs of wear and tear on key components. This is also the time that we can consider the effects of any repairs they make to the boiler and take pre-emptive measures.
